Session Descriptions:

The theme for this year's Conference is Building Quality Community Sport -- the Okanagan Sport Leadership Conference (OSLC) is designed to provide sport education opportunities and hands-on training experiences. More specifically, the Conference is targeted to:

  • Coaches and Officials at all levels who are seeking innovative training and motivation techniques and want to help their athletes meet their sporting goals;
  • Sport Administrators who are looking for new approaches and strategies for club development and want more for their sport organization;
  • Sport Practitioners (including CFES, BCRPA and CSEP Members) who are searching for “cutting-edge” professional development opportunities and community resource tools.
  • Sport Parents at all levels who are striving to do what is best for you and your child – learning about LTAD, and understanding how Physical Literacy prepares athletes for excellence in sport, while increasing the likelihood of staying active for life.

Keynote Speaker: Matt Young
We are excited to announce that Matt Young will share his “For the Love of the Game” philosophy, and how we must adopt Canadian Sport for Life's Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model throughout our community sport systems.

Movement Preparation
Join us for an active preview of Sport for Life's Movement Preparation workshop. Movement Preparation focuses on incorporating and improving fundamental movement skills and fundamental sport skills into activity, as well as preparing the body for movement and enhances the way athletes move for short and long-term benefits.

Burnout Proof Your Athlete
Be inspired to bring back play and prevent burnout in your athletes through an engaging session with Dr. Shaunna Taylor, Executive Director of PacificSport Okanagan, and Co-Chair, Canadian Sport Psychology Association. This session will share current research on athlete burnout at all levels, and will suggest interventions to apply to your athletes and programs.

Athlete Monitoring – Personal Sport Record
Matt Young gives the story behind the inception of the Personal Sport Record, an athlete monitoring system designed for affordable tracking of developing athletes.

Sport Tradeshow and Networking Lunch
The popular Sport Tradeshow will bring together local organizations and businesses. Bring your business cards and your networking hat to share and engage with other practitioners and services in the Okanagan.
