The Community Sport Delivery Program builds sustainable community sport

Kelowna, BC – The Community Sport Delivery Program launched by PacificSport Okanagan and the City of Kelowna has a new funding partner: Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union.
PacificSport Okanagan and the City of Kelowna first partnered to develop the flagship Community Sport Delivery Program (CSDP) in 2014.  This local initiative was established to build capacity within the local sport system. Positions were created in local sport organizations to support sport development needs, ensuring the provision of a wide range of programs and services to athletes, coaches, and volunteers from grassroots to competitive levels.

Now entering its fourth year, the CSDP has touched organizations representing more than 14,000 local sport participants in the central Okanagan. Some of the sport organizations who have benefitted from the CSDP include the following: Kelowna Paddle Centre; Kelowna KOs Wheelchair Rugby; Okanagan Athletics Club; Kelowna Minor Fastball Association; Central Okanagan Rugby Enthusiasts; Kelowna Minor Basketball Association; Kelowna Minor Lacrosse Association. Up to six new sport organizations will benefit from this program in the 2017-19 funding period.

“As the regional sport centre for the Okanagan Valley, PacificSport Okanagan is proud to welcome Valley First as our corporate partner: a quality, community-building organization that shares the same values we do. Every dollar invested in the CSDP stays in our community,” says Shaunna Taylor, Executive Director, PacificSport Okanagan.  “And investing in local sport means an investment in community connection, healthy living, and an active future for the athlete in all of us.”

“At Valley First, we know firsthand how important athletics/organized sports is to the development of good corporate citizens,” says Kendall Gross, Assistant Vice President, Retail Banking, for Valley First. “PacificSport ensures that coaches and clubs continue to thrive and have the opportunity to teach the importance of leadership, teamwork and physical activity in our communities.”
